Traditional Masonry Facade with Staggered Balconies and Windows

This course is on the traditional masonry façade with staggered windows and balconies that protrude inwards and outwards. The course will demonstrate realisation of the popular staggered outlook in traditional bricks. All solid wall areas of the facades are laid in traditional bricks. The balustrading of protruding and recessed balconies is made of aluminium. The staggering arrangement of the windows and balconies affects the masonry support configuration. The recessed balconies are thermally broken and have traditional masonry fascia with brick support on each floor, due to staggering. The façade construction principle is traditional brick cladding on masonry support brackets that also act as lintels. The windows are storey high. The unique appearance of the façade was achieved with all standard systems. Detail drawings, videos, and models explain buildability, performance, compliance, as well as the assembly-specific aspects, such as staggered openings and fire safety.
